Dr. El Hiani’s research interests focus on the potential link between ion channels and
oxidative stress in the pathophysiology of cancer. Using electrophysiological- and molecularbased assays, we specialize in identifying and studying ion channel activity in response to oxidative stress and their subsequent involvement in cancer cell metabolism, metastasis and survival. Our overall goal is to identify the main ion channel sensors of oxidative-stress, gain new insight into the downstream signalling pathways and test whether targeting their function can improve current cancer therapies.
